Managing Director Robert J. Itkin has over 30 years of experience in finance, real estate, law, management, asset management and receiverships. Mr. Itkin’s area of expertise includes receiverships, restructuring and turnaround management, loan underwriting, administration and lender liability matters. Mr. Itkin has also acted as an expert witness in cases involving standard of care claims relating to fiduciaries, receivers, attorneys, real estate developers, promoters, syndicators, brokers/agents and attorneys. He has been appointed as trustee, plan administrator and executive for institutional pension plans.
Mr. Itkin is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel (Arizona Chapter, 450+ in house attorney members), where he also served as President of the Arizona Chapter and on the National Board of Directors. Mr. Itkin is a member of Executive Counsel of the State Bar of Arizona Alternative Dispute Resolution Section (since 2017), and serves as its Chair (2018-2019).
Mr. Itkin is a licensed attorney in Arizona (since 1986) and New York (since 1986), and an Arizona State Bar Certified Real Estate Specialist (since 1996). He has been rated as an AV attorney by Martindale Hubbell (since 1994). He is a member of the National Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University and a Juris Doctorate from The American University.
Mr. Itkin has served as co-Chief Restructuring Officer in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding involving a 3,000 acre resort and master planned golf and ski community.
He has an Arizona Department of Real Estate Sales license (inactive status).
Prior to joining Simon Consulting, Mr. Itkin was a Senior Managing Director at the turnaround and restructuring firm of MCA Financial Group, Ltd., and a partner at a national law firm where he represented business owners, real estate developers and lenders. Itkin also held executive positions at Fortune 1000 and entrepreneurial companies and managed the legal functions of multi-billion dollar divisions of CIT and Finova, including their real estate divisions. He has worked extensively in structuring and negotiating complex transactions in real estate, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and loan restructures ranging in size from $1 million to over $1 billion. Mr. Itkin also served on the Finova Group’s executive team that managed the site selection, lease negotiation, design and construction of the company’s corporate headquarters consisting of 150,000 square feet and related amenities.
Mr. Itkin’s experience includes managing 30 receiverships involving operating companies, subdivisions, resorts, condominiums, office, retail and industrial centers, hotels, luxury homes and apartments. He has also been a real estate asset manager for major institutional lenders and servicers.
